Communication is the meaningful exchange of information, between one or more parties visually, verbally and non verbally. Let’s look at how people communicate:
- Verbal communication : face-to-face, by telephone, by Skype and through other mediums like radio and television.
- Non verbal communication: body language, posture, deportment, facial expression, hand gestures, our demeanour and dress and appearance
- Written communication: letter, email, book, report, magazine, the internet and social media
- Visualisation: diagrams, pictures, drawings, charts, map
Good communication skills will make you very popular and when combined with other talents successful. Poor communication skills may limit your career, business and social success.
I have spent 25 years in the world of marketing I became fascinated with the subject of communication. As marketers we are often engaged in one way communication, simply giving out information and hope that it is picked up, received and acted upon. In today’s world with more an more communication channels opening up on the internet, social media etc. we have lots of chances to make ourselves heard and to create engaging two way communication. However it is the skilful and polished communicator who has honed their communication skills that will be aware of all of the communication channels available to them, the benefits and drawbacks of each and how best to use them to get their message across.
In our careers, our businesses and our personal life a lack of communication skills can result in a catastrophe. Worse still if our communication is not clear message received may not be the message sent. I offer help with all aspects of communication skills, visual, verbal and non verbal. I have worked with lots of people to advance their communication skills. Interested to know more then please do look at:
