Life Change

Life Change comes in many forms: events that change our lives and our circumstances or, change that comes because we make it happen. You may want to change your working life, your personal life or your finances. Perhaps you finally want to admit you have literacy problems, maybe you want a complete change of career or maybe you need move on from a relationship that isn’t working. Rather than a complete life change it could be more of life shift that you are looking for. Mastering something that has been bothering you for a long time can be life changing and extremely liberating e.g. giving up smoking, losing weight, getting fit or overcoming shyness and a lack of self confidence. Many people spend their time saying they would like to change an aspect of their life but do nothing about it. Some people go to their grave regretting all the things they meant to do, but never did. You know the saying’ Do what you have always done and you will get the same result’.

There are several reasons why we resist Life Change:

  • Fear of the unknown. You dream up all sort of reasons why you should not do something, so why not turn that into a positive and dream up lots of reasons why you should.
  • Self doubt. Well we all experience self doubt and sometimes to achieve something worth having we have to step outside our comfort zone. The truth is you have little to lose and even if it doesn’t go completely to plan you will have learnt something on the way.
  • Focus on material things. I can’t change because I have house, car etc. to pay for. You may still be able to have those things but you may have to downsize, buy a cheaper model. The truth is happiness comes from within, money and wealth don’t but happiness they buy choices. Would you rather be happy with less or unhappy with more?
  • Forget you have Options. I have to stay in my job or be unemployed (and starve, become destitute). I have to stay in my job to get the holiday pay, pension. The truth is we always have options, you can find another job, another career, another company or re-train. You may give up something on the way but you’ll also gain something.
  • Settle for Whatever Life Deals Us. You can be controlled or you can take the driving seat.

What Life Change would you like to make?

So ask yourself who is driving your bus? Are you moving away from the things that are holding you back or moving towards the things that will propel you forward? Recognising what is holding you back or hindering your progress is one of the first steps towards positive life change. Pinpointing the areas of your life where you would like to make positive change is one step towards making that change. If the life you have is the one you want that is fine, if not change it. We live in time of changes, now more than ever people change: they re-invent themselves, you can change:

  • The way you look
  • The way you talk
  • The way you think and behave
  • Your dreams and aspirations
