Weight Management and Positive Body Image
Read what my latest weight management and positive body image client had to say on my testimonials page. Have you ever struggled with weight management? Do you have a positive body image or are you always wishing for a different physique or figure. There is currently so much pressure in the media to look a certain way or to have a certain body shape, but how realistic is that? I have battled with my weight for many years and my self confidence and positive body image would go up as I lost weight and down as I gained weight. I had tried all of the diets in the country and sure they worked when you stuck to them but the minute you went back to your old way of life so did your body. Having lost weight without dieting and having taught the technique to others I believe there are two key components to weight management and positive body image. First of all you need a realistic and objective view of your body and for sustained weight management you need to change your lifestyle. Let’s look at both of theses in turn.
Positive Body Image
Understanding the natural shape of your body is the first step in creating a positive body image. Not all women have hour glass figures and not all men have a classic broad shouldered, small waisted physique. Our body shape and height are usually genetically determined. So some of us will be tall and other short, some will have broad shoulders or big hips. Having a realistic image of your body shape and accepting your body shape is an important step in building a positive body image. I can show you how to dress to flatter your natural assets and disguise those areas you would rather others didn’t notice I can show you how to add inches to your height, how to create broader shoulders and how to look pounds lighter.
Lifestyle Choices for Weight Management.
Once you have a realistic image of your body and know how to dress to disguise you may decide that you are perfectly happy with what you have. If however you decide that you would like to shed a few pounds then I will teach you how to change the way you think and behave around food. Often our approach to food and the reasons why we eat are learned behaviours and based on our past experiences. We eat and consume certain things out of habit or to satisfy an emotional state. We eat because we are sad, happy, jealous, upset and some of us use food as a reward. In most cultures food is key to most social interactions and plays a key part in every celebration. Just as we have learned these behaviours we can unlearn them and adopt more useful and healthy approaches to food and weight management. We all know that adapting a healthy attitude to food and weight management is in our best interests, so don’t just think about change make it happen.
“Steve Bloomfield of the Eating Disorders Association (Beat) says men account for about 10 per cent of the UK's 90,000 anorexics and bulimics, and warns that their numbers are growing.”
Teenage Body Image
Recent research revealed: Two in three teenage girls in the UK are keen to lose weight, with one in five finding it hard to look at themselves in the mirror. According to a study into the self-image of the nation's teenagers carried out by Bliss Magazine in conjunction with Real Radio and Smooth Radio, growing numbers of 12-to-18-year-olds are regularly obsessing over their weight and image. The research also found that two in three girls feel under pressure to lose weight, while around one in ten are already looking to the future and hoping to have plastic surgery so as to alter their appearance.
